One league for every level of the game. Whether your child is kicking a ball for the first time or chasing elite-level identification, there's a place — and a next step — at Great Basin Youth Soccer League.
Our three programs — Recreational, Select / Competitive, and Northern Nevada ODP — aren't separate worlds. They're rungs on a single ladder. Players move up as their skill and commitment grow, all within one local league.
Where almost everyone starts. Relaxed, community-centered soccer focused on fun, fundamentals, and getting every player on the field. No tryouts, no pressure — just play. The launch point for the entire pathway.
The entry point into competitive play. Often multi-sport athletes or players doing soccer as a general activity. Typically one practice and one game per week. A first taste of organized, level-based competition.
For players with experience who are more skilled and committed, without making soccer their top priority. Established teams that play at a higher level than Bronze, sometimes challenging newly-formed Gold teams to keep developing.
The true competitive level. Teams play local matches against Reno, Carson, Sparks, Truckee, South Lake Tahoe and Gardnerville, often twice a week including Sundays, and travel for out-of-town tournaments. Coached by experienced volunteer or paid coaches.
The highest competitive tier within club play. Top Gold teams step up to NorCal Premier's National 1 division and the ECNL Regional League, competing against the best clubs across Northern California and the region — the bridge between local competitive soccer and elite identification.
The top of the pathway. The Olympic Development Program identifies and develops the region's best players through high-level training and a direct connection to state, regional and national pools — and the wider US Soccer development system.
GBYSL labels its levels of play as Bronze, Silver and Gold so parents can choose the level that best suits their child's ability and ambition. Here's what each level means and which levels are offered at each age.
Beginner players, typically multi-sport or playing soccer as a general activity. Usually one practice and one game per week, though it varies by coach.
Players who've played before and are more advanced or committed, without soccer being a top priority. Practice once or twice a week, games weekly.
The competitive level, beginning at U10. Local games against regional teams (sometimes twice weekly, any day), 2–3 practices per week, and tournament travel.

GBYSL runs two seasons each year — Spring and Fall — coordinated with the Washoe County School District calendar. Competitions are open to all teams.
Not sure where to start? Almost every player begins in Recreational and grows from there. Pick the program that fits today — the next step will be waiting.
